Gosford’s Angela Davies has been training for more than 25 years but had never led in a winner at Wyong until the patched up six year old Timekeeper (Tommy Berry) won the last race today, the Wyong Hospital Operating Theatres Benchmark 65 (1350m). “Finally the monkey is off my back on this track,” Davies said. “I have had a lot of seconds and thirds here but never a winner.” Although a six year old Timekeeper was having only his 11th start and therein lies the story of Davies patience with the horse. “Everything that can happen to a horse has happened to Timekeeper,” Davies said. “He has been patched up time after time. “‘In fact, the horse has spent more time recuperating from injuries and problems than he has racing. “We have had to be patient with him but it has paid off todfay.” Timekeeper has now won three races but the way he sprinted in the straight and hit the line, despite wanting to hang suggests there are more wins in store. Berry sat off the pace until the turn but once Timekeeper saw daylight and sprinted the race was over. He went on to win by two lengths from Thwarted with the well supported Domras (Nash Rawiller) a further length away third.
