Major yearling buyer James Bester was busy at the Melbourne sales and failed to see Coeur De Hero, a horse he bred then battled to save, win the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Australian Maiden Plate (1100m). Coeur De Hero was found in his paddock with a crack in his off side front fetlock and a plate and screws had to be inserted. Bester then had to nurse the horse, careful he did no further damage until the crack mended. “The plate and the screws are still in his leg,” Bester’s racing manager, Darren Rawlings, said. “It’s a pity James missed seeing the win but he has major clients he is buying for in Melbourne.” Jockey Glyn Schofield was effusive in his praise of Coeur De Hero. “He is a good horse,” Schofield said. “When I wanted him to go he went and when I wanted him to come back underneath me he did that as well. “As soon as we got to the turn and I said go the race was over.” Coeur De Hero raced in second place to the turn then went away in the straight to beat Palladium by three lengths in a smart 1min 04.59 seconds.
