Leading trainer John O’Shea declared Wyong one of his favourite tracks after Mr Versace upset the odds on favourite Yogi to win the Daikin Maiden Plate (1350m). “I have had a lot of success here lately but I like coming here because it is such a good track,” O’Shea said. “It is also a reflection of the horses I have in my stable. “I am able to bring them up here and place them to advantage.” O’Shea has high hopes for Mr Versace, a son of Encosta de Lago and a $650,000 purchase as a yearling. Although a four year old Mr Versace was having only his second start and the win followed a debut fourth on a heavy track at Gosford on February 14. “The horse has taken a long time to mature and he had some niggling little problems,” O’Shea said. “The breed race on until they are seven or eight so there was no need to rush him. “He is a horse with a lot of ability and we are going to have a lot of fun with him.” Nash Rawiller allowed Mr Versace to settle just behind Yogi which set the pace then moved up to pressure the leader on the turn. In the straight Mr Versace gradually got the upper hand to win by one and a half lengths with Yogi hanging on for second.
