Demetria
Pint sized mare Demetria showed she has a heart as big as herself with a record breaking win in the Sea FM 101.3 Benchmark 60 (1600m). Trainer Steve Englebrecht described Demetria as one of the toughest horses he has trained. “There is not much of her but she is all heart and all she wants to do is try,” Englebrecht said. “This is her second attempt at 1600 metres and she has won them both. “The other win was also here.” Englebrecht’s apprentice Jessie Whipp had Demetria running fourth on the fence until the 600 metres. She then eased off the fence and headed for the middle of the track at the top of the straight. She worked home solidly, catching Munificent near the line to win by half a length. Her winning time of 1min 37.27 secs bettered the previous class record by .72 of a second.
