A set back which forced trainer Les Tilley to ease up with Secret Fortune proved to be a blessing when the six year old led all the way to win the Sarah and Dwayne For Breakfast Maiden (1200m) yesterday. It also proved to be a lucky pick up ride for apprentice Taylor Lovelock Wiggins who replaced the injured Blake Spriggs. Secret Fortune, one of several runners well supported in the race, was backed in from $11 to $8.50 and was jumped straight to the front. He was never headed to win by a long neck from another well supported galloper in Dashoff, backed in from $31 to $12. Secret Fortune was bought by Tilley at a dispersal sale and yesterday’s win came at the horse’s fourth start for Tilley. “He had a bit of a setback after his last run and I had to ease up on him,” Tilley said. “He is out of a Last Tycoon mare and they seem to race best when fresh so that might be the key to him.”
